I was recently comparing some DMC floss from about 20 years ago to now and couldn't believe the difference in color. It's all so very interesting...Hollyhttp://www.mistyhillstudio.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3486902113258728399.post-48174020740253371342015-03-15T14:12:16.552-04:002015-03-15T14:12:16.552-04:00Thanks guys! I've been seeing so many complaints about this stuff lately that I felt it was worth mentioning. :)

There is a great description here about the different types of dyes, what fibres they will react with and even goes on to explain the chemistry of each one:

http://textilelearner.blogspot.ca/2011/07/dyeing-process-different-types-of-dye_1720.html

There's also a great article here about bleeding floss/fabric and what you can do:

http://www.pburch.net/dyeing/FAQ/settingdye.shtmlNicolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05030977367531069584noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3486902113258728399.post-73424193477217800822015-03-14T09:27:42.916-04:002015-03-14T09:27:42.916-04:00Great article. You explain it very well and very clearly.
I have only had one piece of hand-dyed fabric which was a disappointment compared to the website image and the dyer immediately re-dyed it for me at no extra charge.
I also find that if you build up a rapport with certain dyers you can discuss your needs with them before they dye the fabric. So if I want a really blue piece of fabric I can tell them this so if it comes out more on the purple side they can redye or start again before sending it out.Jo who can't think of a clever nicknamehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02663450738390351663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3486902113258728399.post-79342323958316833352015-03-14T06:46:51.064-04:002015-03-14T06:46:51.064-04:00Brilliant post - thank you!
